FRSC Recruitment 2026: How the CBT Structure Actually Differs Across Officer, Inspectorate, and Assistant Cadres
FRSC's 2026 recruitment spans Officer, Marshal Inspectorate, and Road Marshal Assistant cadres on a shared 100-question/60-minute CBT format, but the Marshal Inspectorate's published subject list adds Basic Science and Public Safety -- content absent from the general-paper descriptions of sister paramilitary exams.
The Federal Road Safety Corps opened its 2026 nationwide recruitment exercise across three distinct cadres: Officer, Marshal Inspectorate (requiring ND, NCE, RN/RM, or CHEW qualification, ages 18-30), and Road Marshal Assistant. The Computer-Based Test itself follows a format familiar from Nigeria's other paramilitary recruitment exams: 100 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes.
1. The subject list is one layer more specific than NPF's equivalent. FRSC's own published subject breakdown for the Marshal Inspectorate cadre lists English, Mathematics, General Paper, Basic Science, and Public Safety -- five named areas, compared to the Nigeria Police Force's simpler four-way English/Mathematics/Current Affairs/General Paper split covered elsewhere in this series. Basic Science and Public Safety are not generic current-affairs or general-knowledge categories; they map directly to FRSC's actual field role (accident-scene response, safety protocol, physiological basics relevant to trauma response) in a way NPF's general paper doesn't attempt to for policing specifically.
2. The FRSC Core Mandate component is its own study area, not folded into "current affairs." Preparation material consistently separates "FRSC Core Mandate" -- the Corps' own history, traffic rules and signs, and the Highway Code -- from general current-affairs/history content. A candidate who prepares broad Nigerian current-affairs material (as they might for NPF or NIS) without specifically studying the Highway Code and official traffic-sign meanings will miss an entire category of FRSC-specific questions that general civic knowledge doesn't cover.
3. Cadre choice determines which subject list actually applies. Because FRSC recruits across three cadres with different entry qualifications (Officer requiring a degree-level credential, Marshal Inspectorate requiring ND/NCE/RN-RM/CHEW, Road Marshal Assistant typically the entry-level cadre), the published Marshal Inspectorate subject list above should not be assumed to be identical across all three -- a candidate should confirm which cadre's specific subject breakdown applies to their application rather than assuming one universal FRSC syllabus.
4. The practical overlap with other paramilitary prep. English and Mathematics content (basic arithmetic, percentages, ratios, synonyms/antonyms, comprehension) genuinely transfers from NPF, NIS, or Customs preparation -- but Basic Science, Public Safety, and the Highway Code do not, and are specific enough to FRSC's actual roadside mandate that they warrant dedicated study time rather than being assumed covered by general-knowledge revision done for a different paramilitary exam.
